In 2001, Genevieve Thiers saw a woman climbing the steps to Boston College’s upper campus to post flyers for a babysitting job. Thiers asked the mother-to-be for the flyers, sent her home and posted them herself.
While papering the university, Thiers had an epiphany: What if there were one central place where parents could meet all of the babysitters and nannies in their area, a place that would ensure that no parent would ever have to say “I can’t find a sitter” again? With this idea, Sittercity was born.
In 2008, PJC led the Series A round for Sittercity.com. As part of the due diligence process, Point Judith introduced serial entrepreneur Martin Clifford, a Point Judith Operating Partner, to the Sittercity team as a potential board member and executive. Martin joined Sittercity’s board of directors and ultimately the founders elected to have him become CEO.
Sittercity is now the leading consumer Internet company providing online services to match caregivers with families seeking care. Sittercity has a network of more than 2 million caregiver profiles nationwide.
